These are the next few iterations of the film poster hear I have still focused on the arrangement rather than text but I have added the date and tag line. although this is an improvement on the last iteration i think the image I'm using may clearly represent the setting but it dose not have any impact. I think that I may need to use an image with a clear focal point, most probably a person. unless I can edit one in I think I may need to gather more images.

This is another magazine mock up I have done based on the same probables as the previous one, difference being here i have added a lot more text making it look a lot more like a real magazine cover. this iteration has a higher finish than the previous one but I'm unsure about the illegibility of the titles.
now that I am well underway with the other tasks I'm starting to look at the magazine cover. I have noticed that the magazine title is often in a style that fits the setting of the film, here i have used empire as an example and given it a woodland motif to fit with my trailer. At the bottom here i have began to juxtapose the diffident elements that would make a complete magazine cover but its no where near perfect yet.

This Is the music creator I used to to compose the sound track for my trailer, there is a large selection instruments on the Right here and in the middle you place blue dots on the timeline when you want them to play. I used ominous chimes and bells for most of the time, but I also used heavy guitar chords to give a real impact to certain sections.
This is what I have done so far with the footage Filmed on Tuesday a few weeks ago, I'm quite pleased with it so far but there are some issues that may need addressing. I'm happy with the sequence of events and the way they are edited together, there are just a few rough edges I have to tidy up. I composed the the music my self in an online beat generator called Aviary, I tyred to create a creepy and uneasy impact to the sequence. I think the sounds and action matches are affective but they are not all smoothly Incorporated yet, there are some sudden stops. The only other problem is the lighting, all though I have attempted to brighten it in premier pro some of the shots may still be too dark when displayed on a large screen. but other than that I'm confident that with some tweaking and a potential re-shoot on some shots I will be able to iron out all of these kinks.

these are my first two attempts at composing a film poster using my images. In the one below I think the shadow is affective bu the rest of the image looks unnatural, because the composition is to close together. In the top image I have kept this in mind and used subtlety and changed the font of the title to a more appropriate one. So far I have been focusing on the picture so I haven't added many text elements yet.

I have began to gather images for my poster, magazine cover or website, I have tried to capture the creepy mies en scene of the woods at night. below are some of the better pictures i have got so far.
here I used kettchup to make an ominous blood stain on the sign, unfortunately it is to light here and will need some editing before it looks convincing.

I managed to get some footage on Tuesday night, the problem was light the torch I had was not really bright enough to properly illuminate any of the shots, despite this i think there are a few usable shots. I think i will have to go out shooting again either in in the light or with a more powerfultorch.
Tuesday, 4 October 2011
I plan on filming all my shots at around 7:00 tonight, I plan to take the establishing shots in the twilight so i can establish a more Rich and detailed setting. but I hope to shoot the rest of the sequence in the dark for dramatic effect, this will also allow me to control the lighting with the victims torch. as i will be cycling to the location i will also try some Long tracking shots from on my bike but I am unsure how that will turn out.
Tuesday, 27 September 2011
Now that I have sussed out the sequence of events and recorded them on a story board, I need to go to the location and start shooting. I will also take some stills of the area for the poster, magazine cover and possible website, just in case there are no satisfactory screen shots from the film footage. I have access to a camera next week and I believe I will be able to get all the shots I need by Tuesday, the only problem Is that I plan to film in the failing light so I may have to spread it over two nights.

The official web site for"inception" also opens with the trailer, this is something I shouldinclude if I choose to make a website to accompany my film, but the style and mode of address is very different in this websites attempts to get sales that of "district 9"s site. Rather than aiming to extend the fiction of the film making it a more complete story to promote the film this website openly advertises with a "buy this" form of address. I think this st lye of website will be more achievable, but I can still add extra fiction and content if i have the chance.
here I have looked at the website for district 9 this film has an official webs site that accompanies the film, when this site is opened the first thing that happens is the extended trailer is played. if i choose to make a web site I will emulate this feature. The other feature this web site provides is a large map of where the film is set that you can use to click on differnt locations to view images and videos both from the film as well as extra content made for the web site, I like the idea of having extra content for the website but it may well prove to be far to much work in the time I have.

As well as the trailer and the poster I will be doing either a magazine cover or a website to accompany my film. Here I have looked at two examples of magazine front covers, and many of the themes and conventions are similar to those I saw in music magazines. Things like the large central image as the background with text and smaller images around the outside as well as the use of different colours and text size to create a hierarchy shouldn't be to complicated to apply to my film. For the main photo I will use a scene from the film just like the four above, perhaps a dark shot of the attacker silhouetted in the light of the victims torch, or a image a the victim alone in the woods running for his life. From these two examples at least I noticed a break from normal magazine convention in the font of the magazine title. Here the name of the magazine is written in a font and style that is specific to the film on the cover, with the cityscape from "Inception" and the neon blue strips of light found in "Tron". The same thing is clear for "hellboy" and "salt" the art and graphical style of the title fits with the fictional pathos of the film, if I can implement this effectively into my cover then I will do so. The top example has a few elements would like to include in my own work, these include using boxes to highlight article titles, using subtle colour gradients on large texts and I would also like to include a "PLUS+" section as this is a theme in all of these examples. Other techniques I can implement include alternating between bold and regular font and the use of circles to display special articles.
I have began to consider the sequence of events for my trailer, I have decided to set it in the local woods. The basic outline will be someone walking along at night who is attacked, the first scene will be establishing shots of the area. So they will consists of wide shots of the interior of the woods as well as high angles of the an adjacent hill side, the shots will slowly get more sinister and darker. At this point I will have a scare of some kind this may consist of evidence of bones and blood or drag marks, I also have a shot in mind of a watter fall where a hand bust through from behind it followed by a cutaway be for the hole creature is revealed. This setts the scene and the mood the next sequence, the attack. This will almost defiantly be filmed at night in all most complete darkness. That way I can use a torch the victim has to control lighting and make the shots more dramatic, the first shot of the victim is him walking alone through the wood. The next shot is a close up of his legs and feet as he hears a suspect noise and stops dead. following this is a close up of his face as he slowly turns to investigate the noise. After this is an over the shoulder or possible POV shot from the victim showing his torch flicker over his pursuer as he rushes towards him.

Above are all the posters for the the films I have looked at, although all the trailers are different the posters all follow the same style. The image in all of them is of a scene that looks like or is a screen shot from the film, although perhaps with some more dramatic photographic composition. The colours tones and even the fonts used in each poster are in the same style of the film, so for "INBRED" the writing is weathered and run down wile in "Grave encounters" it has a ghostly glow around it. These conventions should be easy to work with when I make the poster for my film.
This trailer stood out from the crowed for me, the subtlety and and simplicity seems to create a lotmore apnosphere and suspense than the other theatrical special effects oriented ones I have looked at so far. Rather than trying to shock the audience with gore and terror this film shows them something intriguing and builds tension around that.I Would like to use this strategy for my trailer for two reasons, the first being originality's. To make my piece stand out from the crowd i will have to be strikinglydifferent from the stock trailers that saturate the market. The second reason is resources, I will be able to make a far better quality sequence if it is kept simple so I can work with the equipment and softwareavailable in school. On top of that it is likely that I will be working alone so a shorter subtle sequence will be more achievable than a predictable lengthy one.
This to me is very predictable trailer, the idea of a team of sceptical people spending the nigh in a supposedlyhaunted location has been done time and time again, though I will say that this example is well executed. The technical conventions used here are affectivestrategies that I may use in my piece. These consist of it the use of nigh vision or grainy images, keeping all shots dark and unerving. using fast cuts in junction with sudden scares to increase the intensity of the experience and above all build tension throughout the trailer.
This film is slightly less one dimensional, the shots at the start are in the style of a mainstream light hearted film. Then the typical fast shots and screams begin when everythingstarts to go wrong, this trailer i think is more affective a subtle build of tension is better than random scares than are only affective because they are unexpected.
The trailer for paranormal activity is a prime example of the almostpredictable type of trailer that is often released for films of this genre. The trailer consists of night vision shots of a dark house that begin to build tension as the cuts get faster and strange things start to happen. Given that the big scares in this trailer consist of things like a door opening or unexplaned footprints this kind of trailer is very affective but also quite easy to pull off with limited money and resources.
so far I have looked at a few examples of film trailers from the genre of horror thriller, these films seem to have a fairly standard format of lost of fast cuts and creepy noises. this should be a fairly easy strategy to pin down for my trailer.

I'm am now starting my A2 studies and have chosen to do a film teasertrailer for the main practical course work. As well as the film I Will need to do several other elements such as a web site, magazine cover, or poster. I'm thinking of doing a film from the horror genre, so i will be looking at some existing trailers soon. I have cosed this brief because it allot more interesting than say and advert or a documentary, also as its only a teaser trailer I will be able to have a shorter sequence of more refined content rather than reams of average footage.

These are my fully finished pages in order I have tweakedmost of them to finalise my magazine. On the cover I have flipped the background so the text is more readable, the contents has a more appropriatebackground and the double page spread has been livened up with a new background, better edited photo and a few more designelements.
Thursday, 28 April 2011
I also thought that my double page spread was a bit to bland and empty so i have added a different background and some more design graphics and elements.
Although the contents was affective I thought it was a bit bland so I added this dark sky background, its implicating of city living and an urban setting. all though it looks better I'm unsure weather it fits with the consistent house style.
Friday, 8 April 2011
Here are my latest pages in order, I have tweaked and added details and I am now satisfied with them, and will only make minor changes to them from now on.
Tuesday, 5 April 2011
Here are the stages my contents page has gone through so far, I have tried to fit in as much information as possible without it looking crowded,I am happy with both of the complete pages on the left and will only be editing further if I have time.
Friday, 25 March 2011
I am nearing the end of the development of my front cover, I'm am now only experimenting with different backgrounds and some changes in the amount of text and types of article, on of these will become my final design.
